Battlestar Galactica is a three-hour miniseries. It was the first part of the Battlestar Galactica reimagining based on the 1978 Battlestar Galactica television series, and served as a backdoor pilot for the 2004 television series. 

After a 40-year armistice in a war between the Twelve Colonies (the homeworlds populated by humans) and the Cylons (human-created robots), the Cylons launch a surprise nuclear attack intended to exterminate the human race. Virtually all of the population of the Twelve Colonies are wiped out. Most of the human defense force is either rendered ineffective or destroyed due to Number Six, a Cylon in the form of a human woman, who has seduced the famous scientist Dr. Gaius Baltar and exploited their relationship to gain access codes under the cover of an insider contract bid, in order to introduce malware into the military computer network, rendering it vulnerable to cybernetic attack.....

La Miniserie, che fa da prologo alla serie completa, è un vero gioiello: composta da due puntate, ha ottenuto subito un vasto consenso di critica e pubblico aggiudicandosi il premio per gli effetti speciali della Visual Effects Society. Un crescendo di eventi emozionanti ed appassionanti, che tengono con il fiato sospeso, raccontando quanto avvenuto quarant'anni prima. La miniserie è presentata come un unico lungo episodio senza la divisione utilizzata per il passaggio televisivo.

L'inaspettato incontro del rappresentante coloniale con la delegazione cylone, che dopo quarant'anni si presenta alla Stazione dell'Armistizio. Con grande sorpresa dell'ufficiale umano fanno l'ingresso nella sala dell'incontro due avveniristici - rispetto alle documentazioni in suo possesso - robot; questi hanno il compito di scortare quella che sembra essere una donna estremamente attraente, ma che in realtà è anch'essa un cylone. La portavoce dei Cyloni, un istante prima che la stazione spaziale venga completamente distrutta, rivela semplicemente al coloniale queste parole: «è iniziata».
